of Animal Breeding and Genetics at SLU and Jälla Naturbruksgymnasium have
since 1992 a joint herd of dairy cattle for research and teaching purposes
which is situated at Jälla (approx. 5 km northeast of Uppsala city). At
Jälla there is also a pig house, a horse stable and a riding house, as well
as a unit for small animals.
Preliminary programme:
9.00-11.00 Short presentation of Jälla and of current projects on dairy
cattle with focus on reproduction e.g. extended calving intervals, calving
ease, post-partum reproductive performance. Coffee. Guided visit to the
dairy cattle barn.
11.00-12.00 Visit and short orientation of teaching activities in the small
animal unit for zoo-animals like mice, snakes, tortoises, canary birds,
hamsters etc.
